History/Overview
The GMC Sierra 2500 HD is the entry-level heavy-duty pickup for drivers who demand more capability than the light-duty 1500 can offer. This is the third year for this generation of the truck, which is the Sierra’s fifth generation.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Sierra 2500’s base trim is now called Pro; previously it didn’t have a name.
Available Trims
GMC offers the Sierra in Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali trims. Two- and four-wheel drive and regular, Double Cab and Crew Cab configurations are offered, along with standard and long beds, depending on the body style you choose. A 6.6L gas V8 is standard along with a six-speed automatic transmission; the under-hood option is a 6.6L diesel with a 10-speed auto.
Standard Features
Sierra 2500 Pro comes with a 7.0-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlamps, 17-inch wheels, bed steps, trailer mirrors, cargo lamps and tie-downs, and chrome bumpers. The seats and floors are vinyl, and the stereo has six speakers.
SLE adds a trailer brake controller and the multi-function MultiPro tailgate, a leather-wrapped wheel, cruise control, keyless entry, and satellite radio.
SLT gains 18-inch wheels, LED bed lighting, LED fog lamps, trailering mirrors with power fold/extend, hitch guidance, a trailering app, and an easy-lift tailgate. Inside, you get power-adjustable heated seats, a heated steering wheel, 8.0-inch infotainment screen, dual-zone A/C, and passive keyless entry.
AT4 brings all-terrain tires, off-road suspension, skid plates, perforated leather seats, red recovery hooks, and heated rear seats.
Up top, Denali adds open pore wood, aluminum and chrome trim, Bose audio, a bed-view camera, front and rear park assist, lane change alert, forward collision mitigation, and rear cross traffic alert.
Key Options
A convenience package for Pro trim adds tinted glass, keyless entry, LED bed lights, and rear window defogger. Driver alert I adds front/rear park assist, lane change/blind spot/rear cross traffic alerts, and perimeter lighting. Safety confidence brings forward collision mitigation and cruise. SLE convenience gets a power driver’s seat, passive keyless entry, heated front seats, and dual-zone A/C. Driver alert II bundles automatic high beams and lane departure warning. SLT premium gets a power sliding rear window, ventilated front seats, surround vision, navi, and Bose Audio.
AT4 premium plus offers bed view and surround view cameras, and a power sunroof. Denali offers power side steps, trailer TPMS, a camera-based rearview mirror, and a head-up display. Ultimate brings surround vision, the rear camera mirror, head-up display, and a sunroof.
Fuel economy
Natural Resources Canada does not require truck manufacturers to publish fuel consumption estimates for heavy-duty pickups.
Competition
The GMC Sierra 2500 HD’s competitors are the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, Ford F-250, and Ram 2500.
